Special Programs

It is the responsibility of the Tallapoosa County School System to serve all qualifying children that reside within its jurisdiction, from birth to age twenty-one. Services are available for students regardless of their disability or its severity. Additionally, we seek to locate, identify, and evaluate children who are suspected of having conditions or disabilities that affect growth, development, and learning. If you have knowledge of a child with a disability or suspected disability please contact the Tallapoosa County Schools Special Programs Department at (256) 825-0746 ext. 23.
Program Services
- Child Find: Statewide effort by the Alabama State Department of Education and the Department of Rehabilitation Services to locate, identify and evaluate children with disabilities from birth to age 21.
- Section 504 Student Identification: The process of identifying students that may have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity and may require Section 504 accommodations within the learning environment.
- Gifted: Identify and serve students who have demonstrated the potential to perform at high levels in academic or creative fields.
